When someone asks you about a property or requests a valuation, you can email them about that request, and CASL treats the inquiry as implied consent for six months. A completed transaction or contract gives implied consent for two years.
Implied consent runs out on its own. Past that date you need express consent to keep sending commercial messages.
Why it matters to an agent
Most of an agent's list starts as inquiries. Knowing when each contact's implied consent expires is the difference between a clean list and a compliance problem.
