CASL

CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation) is the federal law that governs commercial electronic messages, including marketing emails and texts sent by real estate agents.

Under CASL a commercial message needs three things: consent from the recipient, identification of who is sending it, and a working unsubscribe mechanism. Consent can be express or implied, and implied consent expires.

CASL applies to email, text and direct social messages. It doesn't apply to phone calls, which fall under the National Do Not Call List rules instead.

Why it matters to an agent

Every newsletter, listing alert and nurture email you send is covered. Getting consent right at the form is much easier than cleaning up a list later.
